Waiting on Wednesday: Lady Thief

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

A.C. Gaughen
Young Adult/Fantasy-ish
Releases February 11th from Walker Childrens

From Goodreads:

Scarlet’s true identity has been revealed, but her future is uncertain. Her forced marriage to Lord Gisbourne threatens Robin and Scarlet’s love, and as the royal court descends upon Nottingham for the appointment of a new Sheriff, the people of Nottingham hope that Prince John will appoint their beloved Robin Hood. But Prince John has different plans for Nottingham that revolve around a fateful secret from Scarlet’s past even she isn’t yet aware of. Forced to participate at court alongside her ruthless husband, Scarlet must bide her time and act the part of a noblewoman—a worthy sacrifice if it means helping Robin’s cause and a chance at a future with the man she loves. With a fresh line of intrigue and as much passion as ever, the next chapter in Scarlet’s tale will have readers talking once again.

So. I read Scarlet earlier in the year thinking it would just be a quick, fun read that played around with the Robin Hood myth and replaced the Will Scarlet character with a woman. Wrong. While it of course did do those things, it also unexpectedly–and delightfully–ended up being so much more. I fell madly in love with Scarlet and Rob (you can read my full review here), and I may or may not have done a spastic happy dance when I learned there would be more books in this series. The first book conceivably could have been left as a standalone, but these characters have legs galore and I can't wait to see where they take me in this installment!

  3. I do not know, since it's YA. I just feel they will jump around a certain subject that would happen if she got married. Not that I want it to happen but

  12. Hahahahaa, fantasy-ish :D lol, Jenny! The cover gives me the creeps for some reason. I like the colouring and the background and it kind of reminds me of Throne of Glass first version, but those eyeeeees *stares* So happy you enjoyed the first book and I hope the sequel will be a happy experience for you as well:)

    1. Haha it's sort of fantasy, but it's not high fantasy, so I had to label it as "ish" :) Her eyes are a bit eerie, I agree, but I love everything else!

  19. When I read the premise I thought this story focused on Robin Hood too, but I'm glad that the first book was a whole lot more than that. I hope Lady Thief lives up to your expectations Jenny! :)

  20. I still haven't read Scarlet. I remember when everyone was buzzing about it. I had that one and Grave Mercy on my list to read soon, working on GRAVE MERCY now so hopefully I can get this one in before book two!

  21. I found Scarlet decent. Glad you loved it Jenny!!!!! Currently, on the author's blog, A.C has a sign up sheet for an ARC of Lady thief if you want to sign up, which I bet you do! Nice pick!

  22. Wow, I had no idea there was going to be a sequel for this! So cool. Definitely going to add these books to my list, especially after popping over to your review of book one. Great WoW pick! :-)

  23. !!! First off, can I comment on how beautiful that cover is? The chilly colors and her eyes and the clothes and her knife. All of the above immediately have caught my attention.

As for the book... I've heard that Scarlet is fantastic but that a lot of people feel like it's been sadly overlooked--and it sounds like you are yet another I can add to those ranks :). I've never read a retelling of Robin Hood, and it makes me excited that the book could stand on its own if I were to get caught up with the series and read this one too. Ooh, Jenny, I hope that The Lady Thief meets all of your expectations :).

  24. Yes you had me with that first one that is still on my wishlist! Now there is a sequel??? Gots to have too!

  27. Oh yes, I remember your rave review!! I thought for sure the story was going to be a standalone at the time (I think that's what people were saying), but if Scarlet was THAT good, then I say bring on the sequel! And more! I'll have to read these - I love Robin Hood.
